Why Slim's Speakeasy?

The name of my home on the web comes from my days as an Alaskan Tour Director with Holland America Line. One of my responsibilities was to man the lounge in the back of the articulated coach, serving snacks and coffee and the like. The highways and byways of the North were none too kind to the hips and kness, never mind the occasional hot coffee down the arm. I called it Slim's Speakeasy. One of my guests wrote a poem about my establishment, on a scrap of Westmark Hotel paper, during my last tour of the summer: Under sun or moon, there's no other saloon, like the speakeasy known as Slim's. It's a rockin' place and it calls for grace when the roadbed indugles its whims. 47 old coots working all in cahoots keep the barkeep on the run. But he can laugh last, 'cause when this trip is past, that phase of his life is done. No more apron and boots ~ he'll dress up in suits with a sales brochure under his arm, And travel the miles, greeting agents with smiles and a handshake that's firm and warm. But tho' he relaxes with inanimate faxes instead of complaints and delays, We'll feel no surprise if he now and then sighs when he thinks of his speakeasy days.
